Newcastle West 1 Pump Station Upgrade, NSW

The pump station upgrade is a crucial project initiated due to the growth in population and the construction of new apartment buildings in the surrounding areas. Our client was engaged to upgrade the Newcastle West 1 Pump Station to meet the increasing wastewater management demand. The project involved complex engineering tasks, and NPE was responsible for isolating and bypassing three inlet lines that feed the inlet well at the station.

Bypass 1 installation included a duty standby diesel bypass 8in the pump installed via dual 200mm polylines by isolating the oviform line, allowing flows up to 156l/s.

Bypass 2 was designed to accommodate flows up to 4.3l/s, and included the supply and installation of duty standby diesel bypass 4in pumps via 100mm polyline by isolating. This bypass was designed to ensure the sewerage network was not disrupted during the upgrade process.

Bypass 3 involved supplying and installing duty standby diesel bypass 6in pumps via 150mm polyline by isolating. This bypass was designed to manage high flows of up to 79.2/s during the upgrade process.

The installation of the bypasses was a complex task that required careful planning and execution to ensure that the sewerage network supply was not affected during the pump station upgrade.

The installation included nine plugs to ensure safety and prevent leaks or damage.
